VisualBoy Advance Skins

Sat Oct 8, 2011, 10:20 PM
Years ago myself and a few others began designing interfaces for the VisualBoy Advance (VBA) emulator. Sometime in 2007 we lost our web home, forum and most of the community scattered. A few ended up here at Deviant Art and continued sharing their designs but many more gave up or moved on to the VBA-M emulator that had removed the skins feature from the emulator (mostly because the developer that took over the project didn't like the skinning feature o.O). Others like myself tried reviving the community on other sites but nothing ever felt like the forum and many of the skinners had moved on past their interest in VBA and with current VBA no longer supporting skins there was little demand for VBA Skins any more so they slowly disappeared along with the skinners.

Paraphrased from the skins ReadMe.txt ...

Visual Boy Advance is the most popular Game Boy Advance emulator ever written. The emulator was coded by Forgotten and includes a basic skin feature that allows users to customize the appearance of the emulator through the use of skins.

The last official release of Forgotten's VBA Emulator was version 1.7.2 and can still be obtained from the VBA home page

There is a 1.8.0 Beta 3 version of VBA with additional skinning options released in October 2005 that is much harder to locate. There are only 2 official locations to get the 1.8.0 Beta 3 version of VBA that I'm aware of, the VBA-M forum and the direct link from the VBA homepage, the one from VBA-M is supposed to have been compiled after the Beta 3 and include additional bug fixes but has a lower version number than the Beta 3 from the home page, both work perfectly fine though ;)

VisualBoy Advance 1.8.0 Beta 3 was the last version of VBA that was made with the skin function and is available from the VisualBoy Advance homepage or from this link…

These are the skins I created, most of them are from back then and I thought I would put them up so they don't get lost forever ...

... if community interest or boredom occurs I may add to them in the future ;)
